Cayucos to celebrate endless summer

Festival features local history, family activities, live music, food, wine, and community events throughout Cayucos
Cayucos is throwing a town party!
The Friends of Cayucos, a coalition of nonprofit organizations, service clubs, and community groups, are joining forces for the Endless Summer Festival, a three-day celebration featuring local history, family fun, live music, food, beer and wine, and lots of coastal charm.
The festival starts Thursday, Sept. 17, with "History Beneath the Waves," a presentation by the Cayucos Historical Society starting at 7 p.m. at Cayucos Landing (the former vets hall).
Stuart McDowell will present the story of the oil tanker, Montebello, which was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and sank off the coast of Cambria in December 1941, just three weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor that started World War II in the Pacific.
Friday, Sept. 18, is Family Movie Night at Cayucos Landing and sponsored by the Cayucos Land Conservancy. The movie starts at 7 p.m.
Which movie will be shown was not available before deadline, but organizers said it will be a Disney movie.
Saturday is the big day for the Festival, with several special events taking place.
The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a street faire from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. along Ocean Avenue and Front Street.
There will be lots of local vendors and activities for the kids, all in the heart of Downtown Cayucos.
At Cayucos Landing, the day starts with a breakfast and family activities hosted by the Cayucos Lioness Club from 9-11 a.m.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dante Marsh and The Vibesetters will play a live music dance party at Cayucos Landing.
According to the band's website, "The Vibe Setters are a soulful, funk band with tasty grooves and colorful melodies. Dante Marsh leads this award-winning group based out of San Luis Obispo, receiving both Best R&B song and Best Performance awards from New Times Magazine."
The Cayucos Rotary Club will host a "Toast to the Coast" wine tasting at Cayucos Landing from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $40 a person. Visit cayucoschamber.com/endlesssummerfestival and scroll down to the link to order tickets online.
And the Cayucos Lions Club will cook up a barbecue at Cayucos Landing in the rear picnic area from 3 to 6 p.m. to close out the festival.
The Endless Summer Festival will be among the first major community events to be held in Cayucos Landing after the county rebuilt the formerly named Cayucos Vets Hall, a multimillion-dollar project that took over two years to complete.
The transformed Cayucos Landing was rebuilt to match the historic look of what was originally a warehouse built by Cayucos' founder, Capt. James Cass, in the 1870s and was the hub of Cass' shipping business.
Cass also built the original Cayucos Pier where goods were loaded onto and off ocean-going steamships plying the California coast. The pier has also been almost entirely rebuilt by the county.
The Cass House, a Victorian mansion, stands across Ocean Avenue from the Cayucos Landing. It was also rebuilt after falling into disrepair and is now a beautiful bed & breakfast inn.
